The currency used in French Polynesia is the Pacific franc (abbreviated XPF or CFP). A unique feature of the Pacific franc is that its exchange rate is permanently tied to the Euro and set at 119.33 XPF = 1 Euro. All legal currencies, international credit cards, travelers’ cheques are accepted in French Polynesia. The international banks on Tahiti and the most traveled to islands have foreign exchange facilities. For the best value, we recommend withdrawing from the ATM when you arrive at the airport in Papeete. We have found the bank fees are less expensive than exchanging currency in advance or through a counter at the airport or a local Tahiti bank.
