If your itinerary includes flights between the islands, these will be on the domestic airline, Air Tahiti (not to be confused with the international airline called “Air Tahiti Nui”…”Nui” is Tahitian for “big”).
The confirmation numbers for your inter-island flights will be listed on your Online Itinerary next to your Air Tahiti flight details. These numbers begin with a VT. (See My Trip for a link to your Online Itinerary).
For the inter-island flights within Tahiti and its surrounding islands, serviced by Air Tahiti, you will not find flight tickets attached to your itinerary. Instead, upon arrival in Tahiti, our local agents, Tahiti Nui Travel, will greet your flight and provide you with all the information you need during your stay in the islands.
The detailed itinerary provided to you at the airport will include the final details of your inter-island flights, ferries and ground transportation. Sometimes these details change slightly in the days prior to your arrival, so it is important to refer to the materials you receive at the airport.
Air Tahiti does not assign seats in advance. You can take any open seat when you board the plane. When flying around the islands the views are stunning.
For flights to Bora Bora from Moorea or the Island of Tahiti, we recommend that you try to get seats on the left side of the aircraft and have your camera ready!
When traveling between islands in French Polynesia on Air Tahiti, each passenger is allowed one carry-on bag (not to exceed 11 pounds with maximum dimensions of 17 x 13 x 7 in).
For checked luggage, the free baggage allowance is up to three pieces per passenger (combined weight of bags not to exceed 50 pounds). Checked bags must have maximum dimensions no greater than length + width + height = 59 inches.
Divers may check an additional 11 pounds of diving equipment per person with proof of diving certification. If your checked baggage exceeds 50 pounds per person, then Air Tahiti may charge you an excess baggage fee averaging about $1.70 USD per additional pound, per flight depending on which islands you are visiting.
You may be able to pay the excess baggage fee for all of your flights at a discount when you are checking in for your first inter-island flight. Be certain to keep your payment receipt to show each time you check in for your flights.
